Liquid
Petroleum Gas (LPG) is an environmentally friendly fuel. In
this country it is comprised mainly of propane. It is a by-product
of the petroleum industry and is also found in natural gas.
When the gas is held under a moderate pressure it becomes a
liquid and in this form can easily be stored. |

SAFETY FEATURES |
|
|
|
| |
In
terms of combustion LPG is similar to petrol. However, because
LPG is stored under pressure, the vehicle tank is much stronger
and can survive far greater impacts than either petrol or
diesel tanks.
Electronic
solenoid valve's which will shut off the supply of gas when
the ignition is switched off, the engine stalls or if the
fuel pipe is damaged. In a fire, the tank is designed to withstand
enormous pressure and very high temperatures, with over 4
million vehicles worldwide running on LPG it has an exemplary
safety record.

FINANCIAL

|
|
| |
There
is a significant financial advantage in switching to LPG as
a fuel. The rate at which excise duty is levied is very much
lower for LPG compared with petrol
and diesel. Furthermore, duty on LPG as a road fuel has been
consistently reduced over recent years, and the Government is
committed to increasing the duty gap between petrol, diesel
and the cleaner gas fuels. |

ENVIRONMENTAL
BENEFITS |
|
|
|
| |
LPG
as a road fuel provides a number of benefits compared with conventional
fuel vehicles. LPG produces fewer harmful emissions that impact
on the local air quality, and also reduces output of carbon
dioxide, the main global warming gas. LPG vehicles are also
quieter. |

An
ongoing programme encouraged by central government to dramatically
increase the number of forecourt filling stations selling LPG.
BP, Shell, Jet and Esso have all promised installations of up
to 500 units each on their forecourts within the next three
years. |
|
All
the major distribution companies are committed to dramatically
increasing the number of outlets for LPG. The time required
to refuel a vehicle is similar to refuelling with petrol or
diesel. Drivers can switch from LPG to petrol at the touch of
a button. With a duel fuel vehicle the mileage is dramatically
extended, giving almost double the range of a conventional vehicle.
